This training day was the beginning of a partnership between Pavillion Dance South West with the early years department of Bournemouth council. Bournemouth Council hold a strong network of early years service providers called Ready Steady Go which covers a broad range of early years topics. Off the back of each network, they hold more specific CPD sessions. The basis for developing the sessions was that:

Experts say that children between 12 to 36 months old should get at least 30 minutes of structured physical activity (adult-led) and at least 60 minutes of unstructured physical activity (free play) every day.

The aims of the day was to will equip practitioners with the skills, knowledge and motivation to shake up their daily routine to identify the spaces within it for creative dance, play and creativity. The aim was to help practitioners learn a range of dance activities to use with children under 4 to improve their fitness, concentration, coordination/motor skills, creative skills, imagination and teamwork. Practitioners then focused on the bigger people (yourselves!) by learning how to embed the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ into their working life, with some accessible movement activities to benefit mood and physical health.
